How To Apply Natural Hair Extensions
If you're simply looking to add volume or length to your hair, you can add in natural hair extensions. You can find natural hair extensions to blend in with your natural hair to keep it looking like it's all yours. There are a few things you need to do to keep your extensions looking as natural as possible. See below for some helpful tips on how to apply natural clip-in hair extensions yourself and how to care for them as well.
How To Apply Natural Clip-In Hair Extensions
1. Work In Sections
Begin by working in sections of your hair, so gather up the top portion of your hair and secure it in place with a hair clip of some kind on the top of your head. Leave only some of the lower layer of hair down.
2. Give Your Extensions Staying Power
In order to give your extensions something to hold onto, your hair should be a little dirty (sounds gross, but not really). Add some dry shampoo and some good hold hairspray to your hair if it's been freshly washed. Then you'll tease your roots where you plan on clipping in an extension.
3. Attach The Clips
Make sure all of your hair clip combs open up and then apply the clip to the top of your hair where you teased it, as close to your scalp as possible. Be sure the combs close and clip into place before moving on to the next clip.
4. Apply Another Section
Pull down another section of hair about an inch above the first section of clips, prep your hair and attach your clips as you did above. When you get to the area near your ear, be sure not to place the clips in front of your ear--always clip them behind it. This way the clips are not noticeable.
5. Blend Your Extensions
Blend in the hair extensions into your natural hair by teasing your roots beginning in the top middle of your hair and towards the back where your extensions are. Apply some hair spray to your hair to hold your hair in place and to keep volume at your roots.
How To Care For Your Natural Clip-In Hair Extensions
After you have removed your clip-in extensions, you can wash them by using a shampoo specifically for natural hair extensions. Using your regular shampoo may cause a build-up of dirt and oil on your extensions. You can find shampoo made for extensions at your local beauty supply store like Serge's Wigs. Lay the extensions flat to dry. When styling your extensions, you can use whatever type of heating tool such as curling irons and straighteners, since the extensions are made from natural hair.
